Robert and Maina's South Anchorage (Takaroa)
14° 30.4′ S · 145° 1.6′ W
An anchorage on the south side of Takaroa's lagoon, less than 3 nm by dinghy from the village, off the home of a long-time Takaroa couple who have welcomed cruisers.
Practical
Position 14°30.37'S 145°01.58'W, 9 m sand over hard bottom, fair to good holding; reef gives good protection; you can tuck further WNW toward the reef (Migration, July 2022). Watch for the 'karenas' (submerged pearl-farm structures). Crossed the lagoon using OpenCPN and satellite charts. Migration described Robert (then 90, Takaroa-born) and Maina as English-speaking and welcoming; their son Morton farms on Toau. Abandoned pearl farms on the motus are a source of floats for your chain. The dinghy ride to town can be wet.
Best for
Quiet lagoon stop with local friends
