Restaurant Chez Yvonne (Hatiheu)

8° 49.8′ S · 140° 5.0′ W · approximate

The famous waterfront restaurant of Hatiheu: big plates of goat in coconut milk, curried shrimp and poisson cru, and an underground-oven pig feast when the Aranui is in.

Practical

Position approx: plotted at the Wikipedia/GeoHack coordinate for Hatiheu village (8°49'45"S 140°04'59"W). Yvonne, who kept resorts out of Hatiheu and Anaho, died in 2023; the restaurant continued (Dec 2023 report: excellent). Meals around 2,000 XPF in 2010 (verify locally); called expensive in 2022. Calling ahead is wise. Feed bread to the freshwater eels in the stream beside it. The restaurant has kept the key to the village museum (2019).

Best for

Lunch on a Hatiheu or island-tour day
