Hatiheu Museum and Madonna Statue
8° 49.7′ S · 140° 4.9′ W
A small museum of Marquesan history (with a good section on Anaho) in the village, and a white Virgin Mary statue set on a pinnacle about 1,300 ft up Mt Te Heu above the bay.
Practical
Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap 'Archeological Museum' node in Hatiheu village; OSM maps the Madonna at -8.82889, -140.08808. The brief (2023) says the heritage room opened in 2011 in the old village school, opened on request through Chez Yvonne; donations appreciated. Ask at Chez Yvonne for the museum key (2019). The statue, raised by Catholic missionary Brother Michel Blanc, stands on a summit on the SW side of the bay and is reached by a trail (Tahiti Tourisme). The Church of the Sacred Heart is in the village.
