Pointe Puirau Anchorage (Aukena)
23° 7.8′ S · 134° 54.4′ W
Aukena's calmer northeastern spot above Pointe Puirau, in sand close to the reef. Pitufa recommends it over the rolly southern spots.
Practical
Coordinate is a Sugar Shack anchor spot (March 2020): dropped in 4 m of sand and settled in 6 m, a little close to the reef, with no problem in a maraamu. Pitufa (2015) says better spots than the southern anchorage are 'further NE just above Pte Puirau'. Hug Aukena's coast closely going north and dodge the many coral heads along the shore. Keep at least 100 m from Bernard's house below the saddle unless he gives permission. Do not land on the private north side.
