Northwest Lagoon Anchorage (15°01.6'S, Rangiroa)

15° 1.6′ S · 147° 52.1′ W

A calm sand-bottom anchorage in the quiet north-western corner of Rangiroa's lagoon, used by cruisers working along the north rim between Avatoru and the Blue Lagoon.

Practical

Position 15°01.607'S 147°52.071'W: calm, good holding on a sandy bottom despite rain and wind shifts (Asolare, October 2016). The same crew also anchored nearby at 15°00.308'S 147°53.363'W in 10 m on a fairly rocky but comfortable bottom; float your chain on rocky ground. From here they judged the 17 nm leg south to Ile aux Recifs too risky without good visual light and returned to the main north-south 'fairway'. Navigate the western lagoon only with the sun high and someone on the bow: coral heads are scattered and charts are unreliable. No services.

Best for

Quiet overnight stop on the way west to the Blue Lagoon
