Avatoru Pass Dive (Rangiroa)
14° 56.5′ S · 147° 42.7′ W
Rangiroa's narrower western pass, a drift on the strong incoming current past silvertip and grey reef sharks, jacks and, in season, manta rays feeding into the current.
Practical
Dive depth 15-21 m (Tahiti Tourisme). Strong incoming current; dive it with an operator, and Tahiti Tourisme warns not to snorkel the pass on your own. Shallower than Tiputa and usually dived in calmer weather. Mantas are most often reported July-September. Note the underwater cable in the pass; never anchor here.
Best for
Silvertips and mantas on the incoming tide
Season
Mantas mostly Jul-Sep
