Practical
Coordinate is the Manureva summit (OSM); Taatioe is at 22.4632 S / 151.3609 W. Start at the pass on the Moerai-Avera cross-island road, which has enough traffic to hitch up; the trail follows the ridge. Pitufa did all three in 2 hours. Returning another way leads into a maze of dirt roads to gardens; it is wiser to come back the same way, or stay on the main path to the Tetuanui plateau and down to Moerai (5 hours with getting lost). Manureva's height is given variously as 385, 389 and 398 m. Tahiti Tourisme: hike or mountain-bike up. The interior is criss-crossed with trails; local guides are easy to find.
