Ana Puuru Cave (Rurutu)
22° 28.1′ S · 151° 22.0′ W · approximate
A spectacular sea cave high in the cliffs at the end of a beautiful beach walk north of Avera, reached with some rock scrambling.
Practical
Approximate position: the Matotea cliffs north of Avera (OSM cliff node) where the beach walk ends; the cave entrance is not mapped. Route (Pitufa): walk north from Avera along the road, drop to the beach before the road climbs to the lookout, follow the beach (sometimes climb over boulders to keep dry feet) to the cliffs, then rock-climb up to the cave. Bring a torch, it goes far in. About 2 hours return (3 with photos). ONLY at low tide with low SW swell.
