Mt Hiro Hike (Raivavae)

23° 51.4′ S · 147° 39.0′ W

A steep forest-and-cliff climb from Anatonu to the 437 m summit of Raivavae, with a 360° view over one of Polynesia's prettiest lagoons and red-tailed tropicbirds on the cliffs.

Practical

Coordinate is the summit (OSM). The trail starts in Anatonu; the start is hard to find in the undergrowth, so ask in the village or hire a local guide (Pitufa; Chugach). About 1 hour up through forest and along steep cliffs with some mild rock scrambling to the ridge, then along the ridge over minor peaks to Hiro. Guides will not go in wet weather (Moana 2023). OSM also maps a 'Treck Mont Hiro' start on the Vaiuru side.
