Anatonu Anchorage (Raivavae)

23° 51.1′ S · 147° 37.9′ W

A north-coast anchorage off Anatonu village, right in front of the houses where the Mt Hiro trail begins, and good in southerly winds.

Practical

Waypoint 23°51.140'S 147°37.887'W in 6 m sand; Pitufa floated the chain with fenders, and there are a few bommies farther in (Nov 2018). Reached along the deep, partly marked channel on the north coast from Rairua. Protected from the south; open to the north. Village magasin and mairie annexe ashore. IMPORTANT: by 2022-2024 yachts were reportedly no longer allowed to anchor in the lagoon away from Rairua (see Rairua entry); check with the gendarmerie before using it.
