Kauehi SE Corner Motu Beach

15° 57.5′ S · 145° 4.8′ W · approximate

A palm motu in Kauehi's SE corner, ringed by white sand and gin-clear shallows. You can walk all the way around it collecting shells, and there's a little shack and a concrete picnic table on the point.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: it is Starry Horizons' anchoring position on the 10 ft sand bank directly off the beach (May 2016), so land on the nearest motu shore. Starry Horizons: 'The beach was easy access and we walked the circumference of the motu and collected shells. The point of the motu has a small shack and concrete table. We had a bon fire one night on the point.' The water off the beach has a clear colour line between the 10 ft sand bank and 30 ft water, which makes great swimming. Bonfires: keep them below the high-tide line, burn only driftwood, and put them out completely. The shack belongs to someone, so leave it as you found it. The East Corner (Mahuehue) motu 1.5 nm NE has a lagoon shore to walk too, plus the rim road to the village; its ocean side is surf-swept dead coral. No services.
