Hanavave South Wall Dive
10° 28.0′ S · 138° 40.4′ W · approximate
The rock wall along the southern side of the Bay of Virgins drops past 100 ft (30 m), with fat green morays and small reef sharks in clear water. It is a DIY dive straight from the anchorage.
Practical
Approximate position: along the southern shore of the bay mouth (derived from the 2018 report and the OpenStreetMap coastline). There is nowhere to anchor dinghies, so leave someone aboard as a pick-up boat (2018). Swell surge near the wall; watch the katabatic gusts when surfacing. There is no dive shop or air fill on Fatu Hiva: nearest fills via Hiva Oa (Marquises Diving or the MMS yard).
Best for
Self-guided wall dive
