Hakahau Supply-Ship Quay (Short Alongside Stops)

9° 21.4′ S · 140° 2.8′ W · approximate

Hakahau's concrete supply-ship quay inside the breakwater is the island's only alongside berth. Yachts can lie alongside briefly to load water or jerry-can fuel when no supply ship is due.

Practical

Coordinate: the jetty-end waypoint Jacaranda logged (09°21.426'S / 140°02.843'W); the jetty end shows a red light at night. Noonsite (June 2024): if space is available, boats may come alongside the quay temporarily if the supply ship is not due; the dock has water faucets (may not be potable, fine for laundry) and a dinghy landing with strong bollards. Nobody seems to know the Aranui and Taporo schedules, so stay clear of the dock area unless you have checked (Noonsite). Nereida (July 2023) tied to the ferry jetty only to untangle crossed anchor chains and called it 'a totally inappropriate dock'. Ua Pou has no fuel dock: buy diesel by the drum or litre at Magasins Marielle and Juliette (no sales on Sundays), and drinking water from the Cultural Centre tap. Kids play on the dock, so keep valuables out of sight, and fender well against the swell surge.
