Hakahau Supply Dock Water

9° 21.4′ S · 140° 2.8′ W · approximate

Freshwater taps on Hakahau's supply-ship quay, a few steps from the dinghy landing. Handy for laundry and washdowns, but the water is not treated.

Practical

Coordinate: the jetty-end waypoint Jacaranda logged (09°21.426'S / 140°02.843'W); the taps are on the quay itself. Spirit of Argo (Sep 2022): three water sources around the bay are NOT potable because they come straight from the valley river: the supply-dock faucet, the canoe-club shower, and the far end of the bowling (pétanque) area, which has solar-heated water the fishermen use for showers. Trance (Jan 2021) measured 10 ppm at the hose at the west end of the beach. Some cruisers drink the tap water without ill effect, but for drinking water use the treated tap at the Cultural Centre (separate entry). Big green trash bin by the dock; glass and aluminium go to the recycling bins around town (near the co-op, next to Magasin Juliette, past the elementary school). Noonsite (June 2024): there is fresh water on the dock that may not be potable but suits laundry; drinking water comes from a faucet outside the Cultural Centre; other outlets are at the canoe club and the bowling (pétanque) club.
