The va'a (outrigger canoe) club on Hakahau beach takes visitors for lessons. During festivals the beach becomes the race course.

Coordinate approximate: on Hakahau beach, west of the quay. Sugar Shack (Dec 2019): the canoe school on the beach offers lessons. Its shower water is not potable (Sep 2022). During the 2019 festival the beach was closed to yachts and dinghies for the va'a races. Noonsite (June 2024) lists a water outlet at the canoe club (not potable).
