Fakarava Mairie (trash fee)
16° 3.3′ S · 145° 37.2′ W
Rotoava town hall, where every visiting yacht is supposed to check in to pay the waste, tourist and water fees. There is no gendarmerie or customs on Fakarava.
Practical
Fees (2025 brief, indicative): 1,000 XPF per week for waste collection (you must sort it), a tourist tax of 60 XPF per person per day, and fresh water at 5 XPF per litre. Ph +689 40 93 40 40. fakarava@sivmtg.pf / communedefakarava@mail.pf. In 2019 nine days cost just under 2,000 XPF, with no paperwork needed, just your wallet. Maps of the protected zones are posted outside. Fakarava is not a port of entry; clearance into French Polynesia is done online or in Papeete (Noonsite). Trash bins are at the quay; recycling bins for hard plastic, glass and cans exist (2023). Locals say recyclables end up in the landfill anyway, so consider carrying them to the Societies.
