Anchorage· Ua Pou· French Polynesia: Tuamotus, Marquesas, Gambier & Australs
Baie Hikeu (Ua Pou)
9° 26.1′ S · 140° 5.9′ W
An unsurveyed SW-coast bay below the spires. Chugach (2019) found it the least rolly of all the Ua Pou anchorages, but getting ashore means swimming.
Practical
Chugach (Apr 2019): 09°26.1282'S / 140°05.8594'W in 13.5 m, sand. Pebble beach where a dinghy landing is 'difficult if ever possible'; they anchored the dinghy 50 m off and swam ashore. Unsurveyed, so approach slowly with a bow lookout. Cruisers elsewhere in the compendium use 'Hikeu-style' as shorthand for a hard landing.
Best for
A calm night on the SW corner before leaving for the Tuamotus
