Hakaotu Bay (Ua Pou)

9° 23.8′ S · 140° 7.7′ W

A pretty, small west-coast bay just south of Vaiehu. In April 2019 it was one of the two least rolly anchorages on Ua Pou, with a friendly couple living ashore.

Practical

Migration (Dec 2022): 09°23.841'S / 140°07.693'W, 42 ft, good holding. Chugach (Apr 2019): 09°23.841'S / 140°07.699'W in 12 m, sand. Land the dinghy on the south side of the bay. Jacky and Muriel lived ashore in 2019. Chugach rated Hakaotu and Hikeu the least rolly of the Ua Pou anchorages. Also in 2019, they could anchor at Hakamaii and Hakaotu but could not land at either, so landing depends on the day's swell.
