Area Village Landing (Rapa Iti)
27° 36.4′ S · 144° 19.5′ W
Small pier at Area, the hamlet of about 100 people on the north shore of Ahurei Bay, and the start of the coastal walk east to the bay entrance.
Practical
Coordinate is the OSM-mapped pier at Area (a second small pier lies about 200 m east). Use as a dinghy landing in settled conditions. The road between Area and Ha'urei is partly unpaved and impassable in heavy rain, so locals often cross the bay by boat (de.wikipedia). From Area, Pitufa's easy hike follows the coast east, then climbs the ridge; follow the ridge to the bay entrance or up to a fort ruin. Area has no shops in the sources; buy everything in Ha'urei.
Best for
Dinghy access to Area and the north-shore walk
