Anaho to Haatuatua Walk

8° 49.6′ S · 140° 2.4′ W · approximate

A gentle walk over the low hill east of Anaho to Haatuatua, a wild surf beach and plantation on the east coast, with photo stops on the way and a farm selling vegetables en route.

Practical

Position approx: estimated on the east coast beyond Anaho's SE corner from the roughly 5-mile round-trip walk described; not surveyed. From the landing turn left and walk the shore or the trail just inland, cross the short rocky stretch and go up over the small hill to the beach (2019). Mega no-nos on this beach (2017): wear repellent and run to the surf. Some 2G signal at the village there (2019). The official brief (2023) puts it at about 1.5 hours each way and asks walkers to pick up plastic washed onto Haatuatua beach and carry it back for disposal in Taiohae.

Best for

An easy half-day walk from Anaho
