Aakapa Village and Viewpoint
8° 48.5′ S · 140° 7.9′ W · approximate
A tiny north-coast village beneath the jagged Aakapa ridge, one of the most spectacular viewpoints on the island and a good walk or 4x4 hop from Hatiheu.
Practical
Position approx: estimated on the north coast midway between Hatiheu village (Wikipedia) and the Hakaehu/Pua anchorage (cruiser waypoint); not surveyed. The road beyond Hatiheu needs 4x4 skill; skip it in rain (2017). Aakapa bay is not good for anchoring; Hanapani bay just west is reported (second-hand, 2017) to offer remote white sand and clear water when there is no swell. Church of St Therese in the village.
Best for
Dramatic scenery on a north-coast day
