Visovac Island Monastery (Krka)

43° 51.7′ N · 15° 58.4′ E

A tiny island in a lake on the Krka, entirely taken up by a Franciscan monastery and its gardens and cypress trees. It is one of the most photographed scenes in Croatia and is reached only on park excursion boats.

Practical

Coordinate is the island (OSM way 25330768). Excursion boats leave from Skradinski buk (and from Roški slap); the trip costs extra on top of the park ticket and is booked on site only. Seats are set per boat and the timetable is strict, so do not be late. No dogs on the island. On 2 and 15 August the island is free for pilgrims and no tourist excursions run. Excursions run 1 April-31 October.

Best for

A half-day river trip from Skradinski buk

Season

1 Apr-31 Oct; not on 2 and 15 Aug
