Lokrum Island

42° 37.7′ N · 18° 7.2′ E

A wooded island nature reserve about 600 m off the Old Town, with a ruined Benedictine abbey founded in 1023, Archduke Maximilian's 19th-century garden, free-roaming peacocks, and Fort Royal on the summit. It is a calm, shady escape from the city crowds.

Practical

Coordinate is the island (OSM). Lokrum is a protected reserve: no one may stay on the island overnight, and all visitors must leave on the last boat. Admission for 2025–2026 is about €27–30 for adults (sources differ), students about €10, children 7–18 €5. If you arrive by your own boat or kayak, buy the ticket at the Forester's House on the island. Frequent ferries run from the Old Port in season (about 10 minutes). No smoking outside marked areas, no fires, no drones, no dogs, do not feed the animals. See 'Portoč, Lokrum' for anchoring.
