Dubrovnik Old Town & City Walls
42° 38.4′ N · 18° 6.5′ E
The walled medieval city of the Ragusan Republic, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. The full circuit of walls is just under 2 km long and up to 25 m high, with the big forts of Minčeta, Bokar, St John and, outside the walls, Lovrijenac. Walking the walls is the best way to see the red roofs and the sea at once.
Practical
Coordinate is the Wikipedia position for the walls. 2026 walls ticket: adults €40 (up €5 from 2024), children 7–18 €15, under 7 free; the ticket also covers Fort Lovrijenac and is valid 72 hours after first scan, one visit each. Entrances at the Pile Gate, Ploče Gate and St John's Fortress (the quietest). The walk is one-way, counterclockwise, about 1.5–2 hours and around 1,000 steps. Summer hours run roughly 8 am–7:30 pm (Jun–Jul); go at opening, before the cruise crowds arrive about 9–10 am, and carry water. Yachts cannot berth in the Old Port: come by bus or taxi from Komolac or Gruž.
