Donje Čelo, Koločep

42° 40.7′ N · 18° 0.2′ E

The main village bay on the north-west side of Koločep, the nearest of the Elaphites to Dubrovnik (about 4.5 nm from Gruž). Sandy beach, pines and a handful of restaurants, and no cars on the island.

Practical

Coordinate is the bay (OSM 'Uvala Donje Čelo'). Anchor in about 4–10 m on sand and weed; dig the anchor in well. The bay is open to the north-west, so it is fine in settled weather and bura but not in a strong NW maestral. The jetty on the east side is for tour boats by day; you may be able to lie there at night. Some guides now mark the inner bay as no-anchoring because of the swimming area and the 150 m beach rule, so anchor off the beach and check for buoyed zones. Small grocery, restaurants and post office in the village. No fuel or water for yachts.

Best for

A quiet first or last night close to Dubrovnik

Season

May–Oct; avoid in strong NW winds
