Zona Colonial (Santo Domingo)
18° 29.0′ N · 69° 55.0′ W
The walled Colonial City on the west bank of the Río Ozama is the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the Americas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the first cathedral, the Alcázar de Colón, Fortaleza Ozama and cobbled Calle las Damas.
Practical
Coordinates from Wikipedia. Visit by taxi or bus from Marina ZarPar/Boca Chica (about 12 miles) rather than by boat: the Virgintino guide (~2015) describes the Río Ozama port as dirty, with a strong current and a small marina but nowhere to anchor. Well-equipped hospitals and every kind of store are in the city. On busy El Conde street, keep a hand on bags and leave jewelry aboard.
