Marina Bartolomé Colón (Sansoucí, Santo Domingo)

18° 28.7′ N · 69° 52.8′ W

The small government-run marina inside the Sansoucí port at the mouth of the Río Ozama, directly across the river from Santo Domingo's Zona Colonial: the only way to berth a yacht within walking distance of the old city's cathedral, Alcázar and Fortaleza Ozama.

Practical

Position from the PredictWind marina listing. PredictWind lists it as a port of entry with overseas-visitor berths: space for about 29 boats plus 33 moorings for medium-size vessels, floating docks, stern-to berthing, berths mostly under 10 m, 2-3 m at low water, negligible tidal flow and fair channel marking; services listed include electricity, water, fuel (petrol), Wi-Fi, toilets, haul-out, sailmaker and boatbuilder. Contact per PredictWind: +1 809 685 9337, sansouci.com.do. The port shares the river mouth with the Don Diego and Sans Souci cruise terminals and was being redeveloped with a new sports marina and a dredged approach channel (Wikipedia), so call ahead for current depth, berth availability and prices (verify locally). The Ozama river mouth faces the open south swell; enter in settled conditions and follow the commercial channel. Marina Zarpar at Boca Chica (east of the city) is the better-known cruiser alternative with full clearance.
