Tugboat Wreck (Caracasbaai)

12° 4.1′ N · 68° 51.7′ W

A small sunken tugboat in just 5 m of water off Tugboat Beach at Caracas Bay, totally overgrown with coral and swarming with fish - one of the Caribbean's best wreck snorkels.

Practical

Depth about 5 m (16 ft); for snorkellers and divers; seahorses, octopus and lobster (Curaçao Tourist Board). The wreck lies about 100 m from the beach, roughly 30 m behind platform #5 and a few metres off the shore - enter at the south end of the beach and stay close to the cliff; shallow sand slopes to a 2-5 m rocky drop-off (Snorkeling Report). Free shore access per Snorkeling Report (2021 - verify locally); parking and a restaurant at the end of a potholed dirt road; no toilets, showers or lifeguard. Moderate currents possible and conditions can worsen quickly; keep out of the adjacent dock and industrial area, where entry is prohibited. Go early - tour boats and crowds arrive mid-morning. Yacht rules: Caracasbaai is not one of Curaçao's designated anchorages (Curaçao Ports Authority via Noonsite, August 2025), so do not anchor the yacht here - come by dinghy from Spanish Water (about 1 km from the entrance) in settled weather, or by road. Coordinate: OpenStreetMap Tugboat beach (the wreck is a short swim offshore).
