Southwest Caye Anchorage (Glover's Reef)

16° 43.3′ N · 87° 51.0′ W · approximate

The favoured yacht anchorage at Glover's: sand inside the reef by Southwest Caye at the atoll's south end, with clear water and patch reefs all around.

Practical

Position approximate: placed inside the lagoon northwest of Southwest Caye using its OpenStreetMap outline; feel your way in by eye between coral heads. Noforeignland reviewers: good holding, clear water, plenty of marine life, occasional coast guard checks and a small fee to stay; another rates Glover's anchoring 10-15 ft with strong holding even in gusts over 30 knots. Southwest Caye hosts the Isla Marisol resort (PADI listing). The Moorings' skippered itinerary uses mooring buoys or anchors in suitable spots inside the atoll subject to local rules; marine park fees apply and the Fisheries rangers on Middle Caye collect them. The approach is through the Southwest Channel (about 1 mile wide).
