Puerto Escondido / Puerto del Valle (Samaná north coast)

19° 18.5′ N · 69° 20.3′ W

A cliff-ringed cove on the Samaná Peninsula's north coast between Punta Leche and Cabo Cabrón, with two beaches split by a large cave and a handful of fishermen's shacks. A dramatic but strictly fair-weather stop.

Practical

Waypoint from the Virgintino DR guide (~2015), which calls it 'Puerto del Valle/Escondido'. Hard sand and rock bottom; the steep hills shelter it from W and SE, but it is open to the NE. The guide warns: with any NE wind, or E wind with a NE swell, it is untenable. Sound your way in carefully: the guide's depth note appears garbled, so trust your sounder and chart.

Best for

A wild anchorage when rounding the peninsula in light weather

Season

Light winds only; untenable in NE swell
