Nim Li Punit & Lubaantun Maya Sites (Toledo)

Two southern Maya sites within reach of Placencia or Punta Gorda: Nim Li Punit, with a small museum and the largest stelae found in Belize, and Lubaantun, the Late Classic (700-900 CE) centre where the famous crystal skull was said to be found under an altar in 1924.

Moorings eGuide: Nim Li Punit is about a 1.5-hour drive from the Placencia base; pair Lubaantun with a cave swim at Blue Creek or Rio Blanco waterfall and a Maya cacao visit. Position: Nim Li Punit site on OpenStreetMap; Lubaantun is about 7 miles off the highway further south (OpenStreetMap signpost). Use a hired car or tour from Placencia or Punta Gorda.
