Lubaantun Maya Ruins Walk (Toledo)
16° 16.9′ N · 88° 57.6′ W
A quiet Late Classic Maya city in the Toledo hills about 26 miles northwest of Punta Gorda, built of mortarless black slate blocks with rounded corners, three ball courts and the story of the 'crystal skull'.
Practical
Coordinates: Wikipedia. Near the village of San Pedro Columbia, 2 miles away; reachable by car, with a small visitor centre (OpenStreetMap: Lubaantun Visitor Centre). Admission BZ$10 (Wikipedia, 2001; Wikivoyage also BZ$10 - verify locally). The site is known for miniature ceramic figurines and whistles; Wikipedia notes the crystal-skull find claim is discredited (it was bought at Sotheby's in 1943). Combine with Nim Li Punit (see the Toledo Maya sites tour). Leave the boat at Punta Gorda and take a taxi or tour.
