Negril Marine Park (Rules)

18° 18.6′ N · 78° 21.6′ W · approximate

About 160 sq km of reef, seagrass and shoreline from the Davis Cove River in Hanover to St. John's Point in Westmoreland, declared on March 4, 1998, after years of lobbying by the Negril Coral Reef Preservation Society (founded 1990).

Practical

Coordinate approximate: a nominal point off Long Bay (the park covers the whole Negril coast). Take no coral, shells or marine life; do not anchor on reef; anchor only in sand in Bloody Bay or off Long Bay. Commercial snorkel trips focus on Booby Cay and the outer Long Bay reefs. The park also includes the Half Moon Bay fish sanctuary (named in operator literature; boundaries not published in our sources), where no fishing is allowed. Negril is not a port of entry: arrive with a transire from Montego Bay. Hurricane Melissa (Category 5, landfall October 28, 2025 in Westmoreland) caused severe damage in western Jamaica; confirm that operators are running before you plan around them.
