Around a hundred small patch reefs of boulder coral sitting in 4 to 10 feet of water in the lagoon north of San Pedro, halfway between the beach and the barrier reef - a calm, sheltered snorkel usually paired with Tres Cocos on the reef.
Practical
Depth 4-10 ft (1.5-3 m) (snorkeling-report). A no-take area within the Hol Chan system: no spearfishing, nets or gloves, and operators must be registered with the reserve; the Hol Chan entrance fee covers it on most tours (thetraveler.org; snorkeling-report says tours include the national park tax). Sheltered from larger swell, good for beginners. Coordinates from the snorkeling-report.com site listing. A boat drawing under 6 ft can pass inside the reef but read the water: coral heads and seagrass flats.
Best for
Easy, shallow coral-garden snorkel
