Guanaja Port of Entry (Bonacca)

16° 26.4′ N · 85° 53.3′ W

Guanaja's officials sit in Bonacca, the stilt-house town on its own cay off the main island — the most convenient Honduran port of entry when arriving from the east or from Grand Cayman.

Practical

Anchor west of Bonacca (Noonsite position off town, this coordinate) in about 10 ft over grass for clearance; boat traffic makes it rolly — move to El Bight after. Dinghy dock: with the pangas on the south side of the 'Big Sales' warehouse. Immigration first, then the Port Captain on the main town jetty. Reports: free entry from Cayman (2023); a Port Captain asked US$75 for a zarpe then waived it (2022); a 2019 crew was pressured for 'fees' by an immigration officer and a self-appointed 'translator' — ask for receipts, politely decline unofficial charges. Honduras requires a yellow-fever certificate if arriving from Colombia, Panama and some other countries (2022 comment). Security: July 2026 reports of theft from a yacht anchored near the municipal dock and from a dinghy left there during clearance — keep someone aboard and lock the tender.
