Governor's Creek / Governor's Harbour Anchorage
19° 21.4′ N · 81° 22.2′ W
A deep, man-made harbour off North Sound behind Seven Mile Beach, beside the Cayman Islands Yacht Club: Grand Cayman's best all-weather anchorage and the place to be when a northwester blows.
Practical
Position is Virgintino's GOV-IN waypoint (19 21.443N, 081 22.183W); GOV-OUT is 19 21.516N, 081 21.965W, and Noonsite (2019) gives the buoyed entrance as N19 21.45, W81 22.17. Enter North Sound only by day in reasonable weather via Main Channel (see passage); controlling draft about 6 ft 4 in (Virgintino). Controlling depth 6 ft 4 in (guide); a 2018 report saw 2.4 m near the entrance, and about 4 m inside. Follow the two pairs of red and green markers and stay mid-canal; on reaching the basin do not cut the north corner (very shallow). About 10 ft throughout (guide). Free anchoring; dinghy to the CIYC outer wall. Fuel and water at CIYC. Virgintino: if already in North Sound when a northwester arrives, head here.
