George Town Port of Entry (Grand Cayman)

19° 17.0′ N · 81° 23.2′ W

The Caymans' main port of entry, a cruise-ship harbour on Grand Cayman's sheltered west coast where Customs and Immigration clear yachts at the main dock.

Practical

Position is Virgintino's reference 0.2 nm off the wharf (19 17.00N, 081 23.2W). Contact George Town Port Security on VHF 16 (also 14; monitored 24 hours) as soon as you enter Cayman waters. Fly the Q flag; nobody leaves or boards until cleared. Yachts are usually brought alongside the South Terminal, North Terminal or Royal Water Terminal concrete docks (big fenders; surge and wakes), or officers/Harbour Patrol collect you from a mooring. Cruise passengers are processed first on busy days. Noonsite (2025): no fees 8:30 am-4 pm Monday to Friday and 8:30 am-12:30 pm Saturday, overtime otherwise; Virgintino (2015) quotes about CI$3 for customs forms and mosquito-control spraying of about CI$25 (verify locally). Entry is usually 30 days (some boats offered 14); extensions require a letter to the Director of Customs (CI$100) and a CI$50/person Immigration application with proof of funds (2023 report). Firearms and spear guns are surrendered for the stay. Zero tolerance for drugs. With prior approval, boats under about 7 ft draft can clear at Barcadere, Harbour House or the CI Yacht Club instead.
