George Town Harbour Visiting-Yacht Moorings
19° 18.0′ N · 81° 23.1′ W
Free orange visiting-yacht moorings strung along George Town's waterfront north of the cruise docks, the default berth for clearing in and a front-row seat for the Pirates Week landing.
Practical
Position is DoE 'Yacht Mooring 5'; the DoE 2023 GPX lists six George Town yacht moorings between 19.29925N, 081.38475W and 19.30733N, 081.38717W. DoE (current) says there are 8 orange 24-inch visiting-yacht moorings in George Town Harbour and 5 at Spotts, the only DoE moorings where overnighting is allowed; free. Port Security may let you stay as long as you like (2017). Anchoring is allowed only in the Port Anchorage Area with Port permission, in sand, never on coral; no anchoring in channels or within Marine Parks; vessels over 60 ft may not anchor anywhere (Virgintino). Do not use DoE moorings in 25 knots or more. Exposed to northwesters and often rolly (2023); in a northwester go to Spotts. Show an all-round white light at night. Land dinghies between the port and the Lobster Pot area; lock it - a dinghy was stolen from the downtown shore in 2017. Living the Dream dive shop is at the dinghy landing (2023).
