A maze of mangrove cayes and protected bogues about 8-10 miles east of Belize City, used by cruisers as a sheltered alternative to the city roadstead.
Practical
Position approximate, placed on the west side of the Drowned Cayes group (OpenStreetMap). A Soundings contributor stayed two days behind Gallows Point among the cayes, past rusting wrecked barges; another crossed from here to Cucumber Beach, about 10 miles in roughly 25 ft. Choose sand patches among heavy seagrass. Mosquitoes in calm weather. Swallow Caye manatee sanctuary is within the group - do not motor through it.
