Belize City Anchorage (Fort George)

17° 29.5′ N · 88° 10.5′ W · approximate

The open roadstead off the Fort George point of Belize City, used for quick stops for provisions, clearance or visa extensions; nobody stays longer than they must.

Practical

Position approximate: about 400 m east-southeast of the Radisson Fort George Marina (OpenStreetMap). Noonsite: an open roadstead, often rolly with very poor holding; one crew sat out 3 nights in 20 knots from N and E with acceptable swell but strong current one night. The Radisson asked US$1 per person per landing at its pier and US$3 per bag of trash (reader report, undated - verify locally). Belize City is safe by day but hold-ups and theft are regular after dark: use taxis even for short trips and agree the fare first (Noonsite). Water taxis for Caye Caulker and San Pedro leave from the terminals beside the Swing Bridge.
