Bogue Lagoon (Montego Bay Hurricane Hole)

18° 27.5′ N · 77° 56.9′ W · approximate

A mangrove lagoon right behind the Montego Bay Yacht Club: nothing to do but sit out a norther or a storm in 15-20 ft with good holding.

Practical

Coordinate approximate (lagoon interior south-west of the yacht club; Virgintino's entrance-buoy waypoint is misprinted in the guide, so take the entrance from your chart). Follow the old, faded markers exactly; do not shortcut and never enter at night. The entrance carries 7 ft (another foot at high tide). Virgintino (2015) rates it Excellent in northers and usable in hurricanes; a houseboat restaurant was inside then. Mosquitoes when the wind drops. Bogue Lagoon is a Special Fishery Conservation Area (fish sanctuary) within Montego Bay Marine Park, so no fishing.
