Bahía Honda Anchorage (Isla Bastimentos)

9° 18.7′ N · 82° 9.4′ W · approximate

A deep, quiet, jungle-walled bay on the south side of Bastimentos, with bioluminescent water at night, a Ngäbe village ashore and a lodge dinner under the canopy.

Practical

Coordinate is derived and approximate, set just off the south edge of the mapped Bahía Honda village (OSM), so anchor by eye and sounder. A cruising couple (2016) anchored here in a 'deep bay' with just one other boat, found bioluminescent water, and ate at a jungle lodge hidden under the canopy. La Loma Jungle Lodge works with the Bahía Honda community, is reached only by boat, and caters mainly to its own guests, so call +507 6517-4718 or WhatsApp before expecting dinner. The Bahía Honda community runs the guided Nivida bat-cave trip (see that entry). Mangrove shores mean no-see-ums on still nights. Our sources give no depths.

Best for

Quiet nights, bioluminescence and the bat-cave trip
