Anchorage· Great Water Cay· Bahamas — Eleuthera, Andros & the Out Islands
Water Cay Centre Anchorage (Prominent Rectangular Rock)
23° 1.0′ N · 75° 43.6′ W · approximate
A pocket halfway down Water Cay's west side, off what Explorer Charts label a 'Prominent Rectangular Rock', with a view across a low land bridge to the Atlantic.
Practical
Coordinate approx: interpolated on the west (bank) side of the cay midway between the ActiveCaptain north (23.0279, -75.7166) and south (23.0069, -75.7301) anchorage markers and offset west of the GeoNames island centre so it sits in the water; confirm on your chart and anchor by eye. MV Privateer (2022-2023) found some protection here from southern wrap-around swell but still a bit of swell; svcheshirecat (2025) lists good anchorages at the north end and in the centre of the cay. Sand patches among rock: dive the anchor. Exposed W and N.
Best for
An alternative when the north end is crowded
Season
Dec–May; best Mar–May between fronts; leave or move to a front refuge before W–N winds
