Ten Bay Beach Anchorage

25° 7.2′ N · 76° 9.2′ W

A casuarina-shaded public beach with clear water and sand close in, south of Palmetto Point: one of the most comfortable east-wind anchorages on this coast.

Practical

Position from the ActiveCaptain 'Ten Bay Beach' marker. Anchor close to the beach in about 12 ft of sand with good holding; further out the bottom is scoured and hard (hard rock layers defeat some anchors, noforeignland). It shoals quickly: a 6 ft 3 in draft was happy to about 100 yd off (2016). Approach from the west. Safe in east winds, protected north-east to south-east; southerlies wrap swell in and make it rolly. Public beach with road access, so expect visitors. Good snorkelling round the points north and south; shelling on the flats at low tide. Long walk to Savannah Sound.

Best for

East-wind nights off a quiet beach
