Savannah Sound
25° 5.2′ N · 76° 7.7′ W
A shallow, sheltered sound on the Atlantic side between Eleuthera and Windermere Island, ringed by bonefish flats and a 5-mile reef: kayak, paddleboard and fly-fishing country rather than a keelboat anchorage.
Practical
Position is the Savannah Sound settlement (Wikipedia; population 204 in 2010, chapel built 1809). The sound's flats are a well-known bonefishing ground, and Windermere's 5-mile beach is protected by a 5-mile reef (Wikipedia). Access is by road from a Bight anchorage (Ten Bay is a long walk) or by dinghy only in calm weather from the Atlantic, which is not recommended. Hire a local bonefish guide; catch-and-release is the norm.
