Salt Pond Anchorage
23° 20.4′ N · 75° 7.7′ W
The south end of Thompson Bay off Salt Pond settlement and the regatta grounds, an alternative to the main anchorage closer to fuel, the government dock and Flat Cay.
Practical
ActiveCaptain: about 6 ft west of the town; good holding in sand from this mark south toward the regatta stands and the fuel station's big tanks, but watch the depth and allow about a metre of tide (2025). In front of the fuel dock there is thin sand over rock, so dive the anchor; better holding north of Flat Cay in deep sand, where Flat Cay's shoal breaks the waves. Completely open to the west, so not a cold-front spot. Keep the mail boat's channel to the government dock clear; a south component to the wind raises a chop here (2015 report). Land dinghies at the empty regatta stands, Long Island Harbour Club or Basil's dock (both private but welcoming). The government dock is busy with commercial trawlers.
