Rum Cay north-coast surf
23° 42.6′ N · 74° 51.0′ W · approximate
Rum Cay is one of the Bahamas' few surf spots: breaks on the empty north-coast beaches light up in winter just after a cold front passes.
Practical
Bahamas tourism says the northern coast offers the best surf conditions; the Sumner Point Marina site says to check it in winter just after a cold front, and that nobody will guide you to the breaks. Point is the north-central coast (approx). Reef breaks: wear booties, never surf alone, and anchor a support dinghy well clear of the reef. This coast is exposed and has no anchorage.
Best for
Surfers with time to wait for a post-front swell
Season
Winter, just after cold fronts
