Hamilton's Cave
23° 11.3′ N · 75° 6.9′ W · approximate
The largest cave system in the Bahamas, with passages more than 50 ft wide and 10 ft high, where Lucayan artefacts were found in the 1930s. Tours are led by the landowner, Leonard Cartwright, who played in the caves as a child.
Practical
Guided tours only; book through the resorts or by asking locally (a 2017 cruiser rented a car and took a one-hour tour with Leonard Cartwright). Bahamas.com and Cape Santa Maria say Lucayans are thought to have lived here around 500 AD. Position is approximate: the geotag of a 1989 Wikimedia Commons photo filed under Hamilton's Cave (captioned 'Deadman's Cay cave'). Bring a headlamp and closed shoes; bats live inside.
