Conception seabird nesting cays

23° 50.3′ N · 75° 5.3′ W

Booby Cay and South Rocks host nesting tropicbirds, terns, noddies and shearwaters; at least 68 bird species use the park, which is an Important Bird Area.

Practical

Position is Booby Cay (OSM coastline). BNT lists long-tailed tropicbirds, sooty terns, oystercatchers and ospreys nesting on the island and surrounding cays; Wikipedia (citing the 2023 Journal of Caribbean Ornithology survey) lists Antillean nighthawks, Audubon's shearwaters, brown noddies, bridled, royal and sooty terns and white-tailed tropicbirds nesting. Most Bahamian seabirds nest in summer (BNT). Watch from the dinghy; do not land on nesting cays or flush birds. BNT also lists reddish egrets among the island's nesting birds.
