Sandy Point Anchorage

26° 1.1′ N · 77° 24.2′ W

A long, shallow, quiet roadstead off the Sandy Point beach - the natural stopover between the Berry Islands or Nassau and Little Harbour.

Practical

Follow the charted route toward Sandy Point and ease east off the channel into 7-10 ft; mostly sand with some grass, excellent holding. Depth holds a long way in; watch for coral heads on the approach. Good protection NW through SE (best in E, NE, SE); untenable in S-SW-W. Can roll with wrap-around swell in easterlies. Land the dinghy on the beach beside the government dock (no dinghy dock). Crew boats from Castaway Cay throw wakes. No-see-ums and mosquitoes at dusk. ActiveCaptain community reports date from 2011-2019, before Hurricane Dorian (Category 5, Sept 1, 2019) hit Abaco; re-check bottom, markers and businesses locally.
